Welcome to Gammon.hu!

GammonHu Backgammon Club offers a good opportunity for all backgammon enthusiasts to enjoy the game. Players of all levels meet up once a week at Oregano Kifozde each Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. for social games. Beginning at 7 p.m. there is a regular round of the Gammonhu Championship. Guests are invited from all over the world to join in the action. The club was established in November 2007, and so far is the only backgammon club in Hungary.

At the moment the Springtime Championship is running since 4th March and hold for 12 weeks. Weekly rounds start every Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Swiss system format, with each round consisting of four matches. All matches are five-point matches.

The rules we follow are based on the code set forth by Oswald Jacoby and John Crawford in 1970 and set up with the assistance of the National Backgammon League and the New York Inter-Club League. As an additional rule, we use the Crawford rule in doubling game and our rules differ from the Jacoby-Crawford code on one point: as a widespread tournament rule we play that if a single die lands on a checker the player must reroll both dice.

Participation is free and you are welcome to join the Championship at any time. At the venue you can eat genuine Italian pizza at a low price, and the location is easy to find, situated very close to Moszkva tér (one of the main public transport interchanges) in the centre of the Buda side.

The members of the club are friendly and open-minded; also feel free to make contact with Adam Tardos (originally a chess player), Istvan Albrecht (secretary-general of the Hungarian Go Association), Janos Nemes (saxofone player – live music expert of Budapest), Dani Danyi (English language literature expert of Budapest), Peter Gazdag (painter - expert in galleries), Peter Hubel (photographer – expert in exhibitions) or Alan Yager (poker player who recently moved to Hungary and can help you out with setting yourself up here as a foreigner – speaks English, Spanish and French).
